How we did it?

Initially, I read. A great deal. I read my own books, I read to my kids and we go to the library and take the same number of books as we can convey each time. We tune in to books on tape in the vehicle also. Read things to them that are over their reading level.

Next, we had heaps of instructive toys that support reading, had letter tiles and attractive letters and I likewise posted cards with words on them everywhere throughout the house, naming everything (Stove, Frame, Bookcase, Chair, and so on.).

Likewise, I utilized a book I discovered on this site. We just got to about exercise 25 or 26 and both of my young men were reading by at that point. We didn't do an entire exercise each day… as it got more enthusiastically and my child was battling, I just did a half or 33% of an exercise a day.

One of my children is presently 12 and is just currently getting books, up to this point he was glad to be read to and read comic books like the Far Side, Garfield, Baby Blues, . It required some investment. My other child is 14 despite everything I read to them two around evening time. About an hour each time, here and there additional, if the cliffhanger is too energizing to even think about putting off until tomorrow.

Likewise, when they do figure out how to read, even a bit, let them read ANYTHING. On the off chance that they like comic books, get them comic books. Try not to stress that they aren't reading significant writing, the significant thing is to make them read… whatever it is, even magazines, on the ipad, and so forth. In the long run, they will get different sorts of books.

Keep in mind: reading is the way to success!

Good karma to you!

NabilNabilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02784155535456720456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-23652858566758310522019-02-23T22:18:35.603-08:002019-02-23T22:18:35.603-08:00👍👍👍👍👍👍Mom of 8https://www.blogger.com/profile/01065635883612404707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-56486477461172968532018-06-08T12:40:42.835-07:002018-06-08T12:40:42.835-07:00Hello. I see on their site that there is a companion guide to go with these. Do see this as something that is needed, so that the children will understand these books and how they compare to christianity? or is this clear when reading the books? Thank you! We have done all of them. I only require 2 science for highschool (which is par for cor as far as public school goes). My kids go into College their Junior year anyway and have science requirements there. All around, Summer by the Sea has been the favorite amongst them all, chemistry being next. I have also allowed some of the Junior high ones to be counted as highschool due to interest. I wouldn;t combine though. Summer by the sea by itself is definitely its own biology credit!myglorylifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09344900032017884078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-66026806088057008182018-02-20T12:48:15.760-08:002018-02-20T12:48:15.760-08:00What a great review! I just received my first Queens order today...My 8th grader went through Apologia General Science in about 4 months (she absolutely HATES science....I mean, it's like torture for her). So we did it together, read through the text aloud and answered the questions together and got through it. She isn't really a hands on learning kinda girl either. So I am hoping these books work great for her.
She LOVES animals, and so we are taking a "break" from hard science and using Our Animal Friends with her and my 10 and 11 year olds. I'm debating using this for her for high school. What do you think about the high school books? Are they meaty enough? I wish they listed the full topic list for each book online. That would probably help. I have a program called High School Biology in the Home (and the physical science book too), and it is similar in that it is all research driven. No storyline though...just a list of questions each week for the student to answer. Not sure which would be better. I'm thinking about using the Summer by the Sea (queens), and then using the other program to study the human body, and call the two programs together a Biology credit....any thoughts would be really helpful! Thank you!!!Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00363497458728086689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-17528457129348078012017-02-28T16:45:41.190-08:002017-02-28T16:45:41.190-08:00Can you sign in on 2 computers at once so both my ...Can you sign in on 2 computers at once so both my kids can do different activities?
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04097347830462424398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-74034481850008314352016-12-27T19:21:48.376-08:002016-12-27T19:21:48.376-08:00And please will you tell me how to blanket train? ...And please will you tell me how to blanket train? I talk about toys and stuff more in it. Short story is to limit so that they mess is manageable. You could assign the 4 year old to be the chore buddy to who ever is on play room. but if the mess is constant. Not letting them have free reign on items and to make sure they clean up before they get something else will prolly help the most.myglorylifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09344900032017884078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-51087840545705055232016-12-26T12:43:41.180-08:002016-12-26T12:43:41.180-08:00How do you encourage your kids , especially Little...How do you encourage your kids , especially Littles, to clean up their own messes since they know whoever has that jurisdiction has to clean up anyway. I'm especially thinking of playroom messes. My 2 and 4 year old a are usually the mess makers there and I want to teach them to clean up after themselves but I already use jurisdictions in our chores. I gotta say that I love yours! :-)

Thanks for your review of The Power in Your Hands, 2nd Edition. I love how your daughter prefers writing her work on paper before entering it in a computer. She's so very right about how writing things by hand makes connections in the brain. Recent research proves it, but she already knows it!

God bless your new school year!Sharon Watsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15557896292228339164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-28591960000727978852016-07-22T12:30:32.662-07:002016-07-22T12:30:32.662-07:00Should I email you?;) Should I email you?;) Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02357174451621606483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181907004789348607.post-1699746586720830452016-07-14T20:00:52.936-07:002016-07-14T20:00:52.936-07:00Thanks for this review!
